Description:

This arc covers the joint activities of ISO and ITU-T on
registration procedures.

Information:

Related Recommendations | International Standards are assigned domains by the assignment of values to arcs beneath this object identifier. Where a Recommendation | International Standard specifies the operation of an international Registration Authority it will, in general, assign the use of the arcs for which it is responsible to that authority.

The registration requirements specified in Rec. ITU-T X.666 (11/95) | ISO/IEC 9834-7:1995 (superseded by a more recent version which doesn't include the following text any more) correspond to the following arcs in the international OID tree:
{joint-iso-itu-t(2) registration-procedures(17) international-org-name-type(n)}.
An OID for a particular registered international organization name is:
joint-iso-itu-t(2) registration-procedures(17) international-org-name-type(n) organization-name(m)}."

At a meeting in September 2004, there was a concern (expressed during the AAP ballot of Rec. ITU-T X.660 | ISO/IEC 9834-1) over the allocation of arcs beneath {joint-iso-itu-t(2) registration-procedures(17)}. After investigation and discussion, it was recognized that this arc had been allocated jointly to Brian Wood and C.E. Young (pre-1994, probably mid-1980s). This arc appears to being used for the allocation of OIDs to identify modules appearing within the X.660 series, and also to identify Directory attributes within the X.660 series (and possibly for other OIDs appearing within the X.660 series). It is our best guess that the only arcs that have been allocated {joint-iso-itu-t(2) registration-procedures(17)} are arcs used for OIDs within the X.660 series, and that subarcs have never been allocated, nor ever will be. It is (fairly) clear that is the Registration Authority for arc 17 was intended to be the joint Editors of the X.660 series. This means that the Registration Authority should now be recorded as the current Editor of X.660 series, and the responsible joint ITU-T | ISO/IEC ASN.1 Rapporteur Group have stated that they do no expect to see any new allocations under this arc.
