Comment coming out from the minutes of the June 2003 meeting of the ASN.1 Group, dedicated to republication of the X.660 series of standards:
A partial review of X.669 was undertaken. It became clear that the title, and early text was misleading, because it implied that it was allocating arcs immediately beneath the itu-t(0) arc. It is in fact clear in later text that it acknowledges that the registration authority for all such arcs is Rec. ITU-T X.660 itself. X.669 is concerned solely with specifying the operation of a registration authority for allocating arcs beneath {itu-t(0) identified-organization(4)}, and expects that should further arcs be defined beneath the itu-t(0) arc, the associated registration procedures for arcs beneath any such new arc will be added to X.669. It would be appropriate to change the title of X.669 to more correctly reflect its actual scope. In addition, the early introductory text including the summary and scope clause need major revision to avoid giving a misleading impression.
