This is a frozen OID (no more child OIDs can be added to the existing ones).
OID: (ASN.1 notation)
(dot notation)
(OID-IRI notation)

Description:

Attribute syntax vendor

Information:

See Rec. ITU-T X.501 | ISO/IEC 9594-2.

Note: The Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Domain Service (DS) is a widely used directory implementation accessible through Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). The LDAP technology requires object identifiers to be allocated for attribute syntaxes. IETF RFC 4517 defines attribute syntaxes for LDAP as child OIDs of {iso(1) identified-organization(3) dod(6) internet(1) private(4) enterprise(1) 1466 115 121 1}. However, Microsoft AD DS has elected to use OID {joint-iso-itu-t(2) ds(5) 5} (see How the Active Directory Schema Works), which in Rec. ITU-T X.501 | ISO/IEC 9594-2 was reserved for allocating attribute syntaxes defined by the Rec. ITU-T X.500 series of Recommendations under the control of the collaborative activity within ITU-T Study Group 17 and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6. In 2011, it was decided (see relevant Amendment to Rec. ITU-T X.501 | ISO/IEC 9594-2) to rename this attribute to attributeSyntaxVendor and to allocate a new attribute attributeSyntax(40).
