The XAPIA (X.400 Application Program Interface Association),
a non-profit association of vendors and large end user
organizations, was formed in 1989 to aid users and vendors
building applications that run on X.400 networks. It has
since extended its reach to serve as the international forum
to guide the evolution of APIs for mail systems and
mail-enabled applications.
