We are getting back to you regarding your reply to our Liaison statement about the use of the non-registered {joint-iso-itu-t(2) upu(40)} arc (your reference: 4850(DOT.PN)009).

We are pleased to inform you that ITU-T SG17 has agreed at its September 2003 Plenary meeting to allocate to the UPU the arc number 40 (with identifier "upu") under the top-level arc joint-iso-itu-t.

We will also inform ANSI, the registration authority for joint-iso-itu-t that arc upu(40) is now official. We would like to remind you that the creation of subsequent arcs under {joint-iso-itu-t(2) upu(40)} has to be done in accordance with ITU-T Rec. X.660 | ISO/IEC 9834‑1. A new version of the series of ITU-T Recommendations | International Standards that are concerned with registration procedures and OIDs has been approved at the September 2003 Plenary of ITU-T SG17 and should be soon available.

There is an OID repository at http://oid.elibel.tm.fr that contains more than 52,000 OID descriptions and that has received the support of ITU-T SG17. We would appreciate your adding into this database descriptions of OIDs used by the UPU, for we believe that it would be of great benefit to all users.
